REA’s May Encore Auction Showcases Historic Baseball Card Sets and Rare Memorabilia

Robert Edward Auctions has kicked off its May Encore auction, a dazzling display of more than 3,600 sports collectibles that will transport enthusiasts through the annals of baseball history. With items ranging from complete 1950s baseball card sets to coveted vintage cards and even a check signed by the iconic Honus Wagner post his baseball career, this auction is a treasure trove for collectors and aficionados alike.

Commencing on a thrilling note, the auction spans ten days, offering a glimpse into the evolution of baseball from its nascent stages to the modern era of sports cards. Early standout pieces include the prestigious T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card from 1909-1911 with a rare Uzit back, as well as a Ty Cobb rookie card from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series, adding a touch of nostalgia to the collection.

The auction also boasts remarkable vintage baseball sets like the complete 1957 Topps Set and the nearly full 1958 Topps set, capturing the essence of baseball’s golden years. Enthusiasts can feast their eyes on high-grade cards from the 1950s Bowman and Topps sets, featuring rookie cards of baseball icons such as Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax. Additionally, the event presents a complete set break of the legendary 1951 Bowman set, inviting bidders to delve into the rich history of the sport.

In addition to the dazzling array of cards, the auction showcases rare memorabilia pieces, including a ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game and a 1920 Real Photo Postcard of the Harvard football team that graced the Rose Bowl’s field. These artifacts serve as tangible links to bygone sporting moments, offering collectors a chance to own a piece of history.

REA President, Brian Dwyer, expressed his enthusiasm for the auction’s impressive lineup, underscoring the exceptional quality of the lots following the successful $15.4 million spring sale. Dwyer highlighted the robust collector interest and the premium caliber of items featured in the auction, setting the stage for an exciting bidding war among enthusiasts.

Collectors and sports memorabilia enthusiasts have until May 19 to partake in the auction through the REA website, where each item kicks off with a bid of $10. This auction not only presents a prime opportunity for collectors to acquire rare and top-tier sports memorabilia but also serves as a tribute to the illustrious history of sports collectibles, keeping the legacy of the game alive for generations to come.
