Spreading Joy with Unwanted Baseball Cards

“Kids love cards, recognition, kindness, and love.” A simple yet profound statement that collector Ryan Peoples shared, expressing gratitude for the joy brought to children through baseball cards. Ryan’s heartfelt message resonated deeply, emphasizing how small acts of kindness can make a significant impact, especially on young hearts.

Finding Purpose in Surplus

For avid collectors, there comes a time when the sheer mass of their card collection becomes overwhelming. Downsizing becomes a necessity, but instead of selling off these surplus cards, what if they could serve a more meaningful purpose by bringing delight to others?

This was the epiphany that struck me when I stumbled upon Ryan’s post on the Bluesky social media platform. Ryan, a passionate collector, had embarked on a noble mission to repurpose sports cards to spread happiness, particularly among children.

Driven by Ryan’s inspiring initiative, I promptly gathered an 800-count box of 1989 Fleer cards, adding some extra goodies, and dispatched it to Idaho Falls—a simple action with the potential to spark joy.

Spreading Smiles

Throughout the year, Ryan channels donated cards in various heartwarming avenues. Some cards find their way to kids at his wife’s school, while others reach patients of all ages visiting Ryan at the infusion clinic where he works as a pharmacist. A portion even lands in the hands of fans attending Idaho Falls Chukars games in the Pioneer League.

As the holiday season approaches, the significance of these cards amplifies. Engaged in Operation Christmas Child, a charitable endeavor distributing gift-filled shoeboxes worldwide, Ryan includes packs of trading cards to enhance the joy for children. This year, his commitment soared as he packed over 10,000 cards for 300 shoeboxes—an impactful gesture radiating positivity and delight.

Spreading Positivity

Ryan’s mantra is simple yet profound: to utilize cards as instruments of joy, spreading positivity and fostering smiles among children. He aspires for this ripple effect of kindness to inspire others to join the cause.

For collectors eager to contribute, Ryan welcomes donations. Connect with him on Twitter/X or Bluesky for further information on how to participate. Just a gentle reminder to check your 1989 Fleer boxes for any Billy Ripken cards before dispatching—the goal is to bring joy to children after all!

A Touch of Kindness

Whether you’re sitting on a stash of dusty commons or seeking to make a difference this festive season, Ryan’s initiative stands as a testament to the profound impact of small acts of benevolence. Your unwanted cards possess the magical ability to bring a smile to a child’s face—a true embodiment of the spirit of giving.

Join in and be a part of collector Ryan Peoples’ heartwarming mission to spread joy through the power of baseball cards.
